Former Seattle Aquarium board member named NOAA Fisheries administrator

Will Stelle, former Aquarium board member and charter member of our Public Partnerships committee, was recently named the administrator of the newly formed NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region. He has been serving as the NW Regional Administrator.

Will has had a distinguished career in fisheries and environmental policies in Washington D.C., the Pacific Northwest, and all along the West Coast. This has included work on Capitol Hill, the White House and in private law practice. As a longtime Seattle Aquarium board member, he was part of the task force that developed the new Seattle Aquarium mission statement and conservation education policy. His counsel was also instrumental in shaping the Aquarium’s development over the past decade as an active voice and platform for marine conservation issues in the Puget Sound region.

He comes to the helm during an exciting development at NOAA Fisheries. The organization’s former Northwest and Southwest regions have united to form the West Coast Region, a move that aims to protect marine resources all along the West Coast. According to NOAA, “this integration opens the door for better coordination, efficiency and resource allocation without changing the scope of NOAA Fisheries’ work with West Coast fisheries.”

The Seattle Aquarium congratulates Will Stelle on his new position, and looks forward to continuing partnerships with NOAA Fisheries in the future!
